Ethereum and top wallets roll out Clear Signing to stop blind hex approvals with auditable plain-language summaries

The Ethereum Foundation and major wallet providers launched “Clear Signing,” a standard to replace blind signing by presenting human-readable transaction descriptions.

The Ethereum Foundation announced “Clear Signing,” a new security framework designed to stop blind signing by converting unreadable transaction data into clear, human-readable descriptions so users can see asset movements, recipients and permission grants before approving transactions [1] [2].

Major wallet and infrastructure providers including Ledger, Trezor, MetaMask, WalletConnect, Fireblocks and Cyfrin have committed to implement the standard, which is intended to phase out approvals of raw hex strings that have been the source of many wallet exploits [3] [4].

Clear Signing is built on ERC-7730 and features a public registry so independent security researchers can validate the plain-language transaction descriptions shown to users, aiming to make approvals auditable and reduce fraud risk [2] [1].

The Foundation and partner wallets said the standard will be rolled out across wallets and hardware providers to reduce transaction-related hacks by eliminating blind signing practices [3] [4].
