Red Team Finds Bitcoin Open-Source Flaws as Firms Push AI Labs for Unrestricted Security Testing
A Bitcoin Red Team researcher said that after using the “Kimi K3” scanning tool for two weeks, his team identified “numerous” critical and high-severity vulnerabilities across Bitcoin open-source projects, and that project maintainers validated the findings. The team also reported completing an initial scan of much of the Bitcoin open-source ecosystem, noting that many easier-to-find issues had already been discovered [1].
Separately, Bitcoin company leaders and open-source developers warned that AI cybersecurity models may be affected by access restrictions, while Chinese AI models reportedly performed better in comparisons referenced by the industry. Related reporting also describes a broader security push from crypto firms amid concerns over an “AI security divide,” including an open letter and calls for better coordination around AI-driven cybersecurity [2] [3].
In the same period, more than 40 bitcoin and crypto firms asked major AI labs to allow independent security researchers to use their strongest models before public release, according to Decrypt. The request is framed around strengthening defenses against hackers and improving the ability of researchers to test and evaluate models in advance [4].
Collectively, the reports point to heightened attention on AI-enabled vulnerability discovery and on how access to advanced security models may impact cybersecurity outcomes across the Bitcoin and broader crypto ecosystem [1] [2] [4].
