StarkWare reports experimental quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction confirmed on mainnet without consensus changes
Multiple outlets reported that StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy tested an experimental quantum-resistant (quantum-safe) Bitcoin transaction on mainnet, moving value spent from a 10,000-satoshi output in block 964,199 without altering Bitcoin consensus rules [1] [2].
CryptoPotato reported the transaction was mined through MARA’s private Slipstream mempool using a method called “Quantum Safe Bitcoin,” also attributed to StarkWare and Avihu Levy [2].
Cryptopolitan reported StarkWare said the approach ensured coins moved into a hash-based structure are safe from attacks exploiting Shor’s algorithm, and described the work as relevant beyond Bitcoin because other blockchains also rely on elliptic-curve signatures [3].
CryptoPotato characterized the approach as a stopgap rather than a complete fix for the stated quantum risk concerns [2].
U.Today reported that Bitcoin can execute at least one type of quantum-resistant transaction on the live network [4].
