BitMEX Plans Permanent Shutdown on Sept. 23 After 11-Year Derivatives Run
Crypto derivatives exchange BitMEX says it will permanently shut down in September, with the company announcing an end to trading on September 23. The exchange urged users to close positions and withdraw funds before additional fees begin [1] [2] [3].
BitMEX attributed the decision to a strategic business review and said customer assets remain safe and in users’ control. Coverage also notes the exchange’s long run and that its market position eroded over time as competitors gained share [2] [3] [4].
BitMEX’s announced September 23 shutdown will end more than a decade of operations, as the exchange directs users to withdraw assets ahead of the closure [1] [2] [3].
