Blast to wind down Ethereum L2 as costs exceed revenue, with withdrawals available through Oct. 26, 2026
Blast announced it will shut down its Ethereum Layer 2, saying maintenance costs exceed the network’s revenue and it sees no credible path to economic sustainability [1] [2].
Users have until Oct. 26, 2026, to withdraw assets through Blast’s normal interface; the withdrawal delay has been reduced to 24 hours. After the deadline, assets will remain withdrawable through Blast’s bridge contracts on Ethereum mainnet [1] [3] [4].
The Defiant reported that about $63.5 million remained in Blast’s canonical bridge. Blast launched in early access in November 2023 after raising $20 million from investors including Paradigm and Standard Crypto [3] [1].
