Tether says it helped freeze nearly $550 million in Iran-linked USDT amid Senate scrutiny
Senate Democratic investigators alleged that USDT was a key part of Iran’s shadow-banking network, reporting that 84% of 846 Iran-connected sanctioned crypto wallets dealt predominantly in the stablecoin. Tether said it had helped US authorities freeze nearly $550 million in Iran-linked USDT so far in 2026 [1] [2] [3] [4].
One action reported by Tether involved more than $344 million in USDT across two TRON addresses in April; the company said it acted on information from the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control and US law enforcement [3].
