Ethereum postpones Hoodi Glamsterdam test to assess EIP-8037 effects on existing contracts
Ethereum developers postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, which had been scheduled for October 26, to investigate compatibility concerns between EIP-8037’s gas-accounting changes and existing smart contracts. The planned increase to Hoodi’s gas limit of 200 million was also canceled, and no new testnet or mainnet activation dates have been set [1] [2] [3].
CoinDesk reported that researchers found the new gas rules could allow contracts to permanently record failed operations. ChainSecurity said it identified 13 real-world examples of contracts potentially affected and is coordinating disclosure with the projects involved. Hoodi node operators were told to update their clients to prevent activation on the original schedule [1] [2] [4].
