Consensys to split into MetaMask consumer business and a separate protocols and institutional infrastructure company
Consensys Software Inc. announced it will split into two independently operated companies: MetaMask, which will focus on its consumer platform, and a newly formed Consensys that will take over protocols and institutional blockchain infrastructure, including Linea [1] [2] [3] [4].
In the reorganization, the existing corporate entity will be rebranded as MetaMask, with Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin serving as chairman and CEO, while a newly formed Consensys will retain the protocols and institutional infrastructure business with Lubin as executive chairman [1] [2] [3] [4].
MetaMask said users’ apps, assets, keys, and access will remain unchanged following the split, and it reported more than 100 million downloads across roughly 190 countries [1].
