Chainalysis ties $387M Bitget theft to North Korea; XRP reaches Bitcoin as DPRK-linked thefts top $1B
Chainalysis said AI-assisted automation reduced a bridge-reconciliation task during its investigation of the $387 million Bitget theft from more than 20 hours of manual work to under 10 minutes. The firm described the work in an Oct. 1 report [1] [2].
Chainalysis attributed the theft to North Korean actors and said investigators traced the funds across four blockchains. The firm said the theft pushed the value of crypto stolen by DPRK-linked groups in 2026 above $1 billion [3].
A separate account of the tracing said stolen XRP moved through a cross-chain protocol into Bitcoin, bypassing an exchange while leaving on-chain records [4].
