Binance reports 90% of $6.3B theft shortfall replenished, targets Nov. 1 withdrawals; top tokens fully backed
Binance said it has replenished about 90% of the cryptocurrency shortfall after hackers stole assets valued at $6.3 billion earlier this week. The exchange is targeting Sunday, Nov. 1, to resume withdrawals [1] [2].
Binance said its top 10 tokens, including BTC, ETH, USDT and BNB, are now fully backed by reserves. It cited a partial SAFU deployment, futures insurance balances above regulatory and risk-management requirements, and corporate funds as sources for replenishment, and said it plans to restore SAFU to about $1 billion [2] [3].
Cointelegraph reported that less-liquid tokens make up the remaining shortfall and that Binance is buying replacement assets through market and over-the-counter trades. The Defiant reported that full cryptographic proof is expected by Nov. 3 [4] [5].
